Cap badge, Camel Transport Corps, 1914-1919

Gilded metal badge in the form of a camel's footprint with the pierced unit initials, 'CTC'. The brooch fastening and gilding may have been added at a later date.

The Camel Transport Corps was formed at the beginning of World War One (1914-1918) with Egyptian camel drivers hired and organised to support and supply British and Imperial troops operating in the Middle East. A War Department inspection in January 1916 puts the strength of the Corps at around 10,000 camels, 52 officers and 1,400 other ranks.
