Diary, Captain E A A de Salis, 1st Battalion, Royal Dublin Fusiliers, South Africa, 1 January to 1 April 1900

Edward Augustus Alfred de Salis was born in 1874 and married Emily Ethel Geddes in 1902. He served in the 4th Ashanti War (1895-1896), the Boer War (1899-1902) and World War One (1914-1918).
De Salis was gazetted to the Royal Dublin Fusiliers in 1899, as second lieutenant, from the Militia, He was promoted to lieutenant on 24 October 1899. During the Boer War he was present at the Relief of Ladysmith, the Battle of Colenso and the Battle of Laing's Nek. In 1901, he was created a Companion of the Distinguished Service Order for his service in South Africa.
De Salis was promoted to captain on 2 August 1902 and served with the Worcestershire Regiment. He later served as Adjutant to the King's Own Malta Regiment of Militia, from 1907 to 1912.
During World War One de Sallis served as a staff captain with the British Expeditionary Force and the Mediterranean Expeditionary Force and commanded a battalion of the Machine Gun Corps as an acting lieutenant-colonel. De Sallis died, aged 67 on 16 December 1943.
