This portrait was drawn while Cook was serving in Iraq as a soldier in the Territorial Army, after his assignment as War Artist for The Times. He drew his regimental colleague, Sergeant Paul Barry, while he was briefing vehicle commanders on 'actions on attack' before they left Basra on convoy escort duty.
