In the build up for Operation TELIC, the invasion of Iraq in 2003, a Challenger Armoured Recovery Vehicle (ARV) of the Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers, attached to the Queens Royal Lancers, is guided on to a dock in Kuwait by a member of 17 Port and Maritime Regiment, Royal Logistics Corps.

The Challenger Armoured Repair and Recovery Vehicle was developed in the 1980s and produced by Vickers Defence Systems using the Challenger 1 tank chassis. It is equipped with a winch, crane and bulldozer blade. The vehicle was designed to support Challenger 2 main battle tank units and is able to repair or recover vehicles involved in combat or accidents.
