A Challenger Armoured Recovery and Repair Vehicle, Exercise BLACK EAGLE, Poland, 2014

A Challenger Armoured Recovery Vehicle about to cross a public highway during BLACK EAGLE, an Anglo-Polish exercise at the Zagan Training Area. The exercise was part of the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation's (NATO) demonstration of support for its allies in Eastern Europe and the Baltic States.

The Challenger Armoured Repair and Recovery Vehicle was developed in the 1980s and produced by Vickers Defence Systems using the Challenger 1 tank chassis. It is equipped with a winch, crane and bulldozer blade. The vehicle was designed to support Challenger 2 main battle tank units and is able to repair or recover vehicles involved in combat or accidents.
