This was one of five mentions in despatches received by Lieutenant Colonel James Frederick Plunkett during World War One (1914-1918). In addition, Plunkett was also awarded the Distinguished Conduct Medal, the Military Cross and the Distinguished Service Order with two bars, making him one of the most highly decorated servicemen of the War.
