Silver medal awarded to 1064 Sepoy Harnam Singh, 5th Battalion, 14th Punjab Regiment, for the Defence of the British Legation, Addis Ababa, 1936
At the beginning of May 1936 the Italians advanced towards Addis Ababa, the capital of Ethiopia. Many British and other foreign residents found refuge at the British Legation, where they were protected by Sikh troops of the Indian Army.
Struck on obverse: 'PRESENTED TO THE BRITISH LEGATION GUARD/ BY THE/ BRITISH COMMUNITIES/ AT/ ADDIS ABABA/ TO/ COMMEMORATE/ SERVICES RENDERED/ 2ND TO 6TH/ MAY/ 1936'.
