Two gun teams of the Royal Horse Artillery, headed by an officer, canter across sand dunes while Royal Navy destroyers can be seen in the distance.

The artist was originally a veterinary surgeon who served in the Army for 23 years with the 3rd Hussars, Queen's Bays and 2nd Life Guards. He later became famous as a sculptor of horses.
