Tactical recognition patch, Multi-National Division (South-East) (Iraq), 2003-2009
Blue rectangular patch with gold border and gold Assyrian Winged Lamassu embroidered in centre.
Multi-National Division (South-East) was the British-controlled zone in the south-east of Iraq, established after the coalition invasion in 2003. The area of operations included Basra and Maysan. The Lamassu is a mythical beast taking the form of a winged bull or lion with a human head. It is associated with the Assyrian, Babylonian and Sumerian empires of ancient Mesopotamia. The Lamassu was used during World War Two as the emblem of the British 10th Army.
