Captain Sidney Morton, 24th Punjabis, 1911

Sidney Morton was born 1 April 1876. He entered Sandhurst in September 1894 as a Queen's Indian Cadet and was commissioned as a 2nd lieutenant in 1896. He served as a captain with the 2nd Battalion, 24th Punjabis, rising to the rank of major in January 1914. He was killed in action in Mesopotamia on 14 July 1915, during World War One (1914-1918).
The Coronation of King George V and his wife Queen Mary took place on 22 June 1911 at Westminster Abbey. This was followed by the Delhi Coronation Durbar on 12 December 1911, which was attended by around 100,000 people.
