Percy Ottley joined the Army on 3 February 1916 and trained for a year before being sent to France with 1st/14th (County of London) Battalion, The London Regiment (London Scottish) in August 1917. He was killed during the Battle of Cambrai on 23 November 1917 during his unit's attack on Tadpole Trench near Bourlon Wood.
