Silver gilt medal commemorating James II 1685, Military and Naval Reward 1685

Made by medallist John Roettiers.

Medals like this were intended as military and naval rewards for distribution among those who commanded the Royal forces and fleets which opposed the invasion of the Dukes of Monmouth and Argyle. As it is made in silver-gilt this medal is believed to be an awarded example, although the recipient is not known (medals are also known to have been made in silver, bronze and base metal).
