Silver medal awarded to an unknown recipient from 1st Battalion, 5th Regiment of Bombay Native Infantry, 1801
Engraved and struck at the Calcutta Mint, this East India Company medal was authorised in July 1802, for award in both gold and silver to Indian troops who had served in the Egyptian campaign under Major General David Baird. The Persian inscription translates as, 'This medal has been presented in commemoration of the defeat of the French Armies in the kingdom of Egypt by the great bravery of the victorious army of England'. The reverse of the medal depicts a man-of-war sailing towards the coast of Egypt.
