India General Service Medal 1854-95, with clasp, 'Waziristan 1894-95', awarded to Private J Ditchburn, 2nd Battalion, The Buffs (East Kent Regiment)
Silver, circular campaign medal with an effigy of Queen Victoria and inscription, 'Victoria Regina', on the obverse; on the reverse, the figure of Winged Victory crowning a kneeling figure with a laurel wreath; red and dark blue ribbon with clasp, 'Waziristan 1899-5'.
The clasp 'Waziristan 1894-5' was awarded to service personnel involved in the campaign in Waziristan between 22 October 1894 and 13 March 1895. A party commanded by Colonel A H Turner surveying the border between India and Afghanistan was attacked at Wana by Waziri forces in November 1894. The clasp was awarded for both this action and the subsequent punitive expedition led by Lieutenant-General Sir William Lockhart.
