India General Service Medal 1908-35, with clasp, 'Burma 1930-32', awarded to Private W Howe, 1st Battalion, The Buffs (Royal East Kent Regiment)

Silver campaign medal with, on the obverse, a portrait of King George V wearing a crown, with the inscription, 'Georgivs V D:G: Britt: Omn: Rex et Indiae Imp.'. On the reverse is a depiction of Jamrud Fort with the word, 'India',with a wreath of olive and oak leaves. The edge of the medal records the name, rank and number of the recipient. The medal is suspended on a green ribbon with a central, vertical blue stripe with a silver clasp, 'Burma 1930-32'.

The India General Service Medal 1908-35 was struck in London and Calcutta and produced in silver for combatants and in bronze (until 1919) for servants and bearers. One version was produced to coincide with the reign of King Edward VII and two versions were produced during King George V's reign. The reverse of the medal, featuring Jamrud Fort, was designed by the sculptor Richard Garbe (1876-1957).

A total of 12 clasps were awarded including 'North West Frontier 1908', 'Abor 1911-12', 'Afghanistan NWF 1919', 'Mahsud 1919-20', 'Waziristan 1919-21', 'Malabar 1921-22', 'Waziristan 1921-24', 'Waziristan 1925', 'North West Frontier 1930-31', 'Burma 1930-32', 'Mohmand 1933' and 'North West Frontier 1935'.
