A British officer and two Indian pioneers, 1919
Photograph, India, North West Frontier, Waziristan, 1919.
This photograph was taken during 2nd Battalion, 61st King George's Own Pioneers' service on the North West Frontier. During the Revolt in Waziristan (1919-1920), the pioneers and engineers' main tasks were building bridges, fortifications, signal posts and roads. Such activities aided the deployment of British and Indian troops and allowed them to control the hostile tribes of the region.
From an album of 96 photographs compiled by Lieutenant Frank Allen Hanson, 2nd Battalion, 61st King George's Own Pioneers.
