Officers and men of 'A' Company, 2nd Battalion, 61st King George's Own Pioneers, building a bridge, 1919 (c)
Photograph, India, North West Frontier, 1919 (c).
In the rough terrain of India's North West Frontier the main tasks of the pioneers and engineers were building bridges, fortifications, signal posts and roads. Such activities aided the deployment of British and Indian troops and allowed them to control the hostile tribes of the region.
From an album of 96 photographs compiled by Lieutenant Frank Allen Hanson, 2nd Battalion 61st King George's Own Pioneers.
