Letter from the War Office concerning allegations relating to demobilisation, 4 November 1919

This letter discusses criticisms that appeared in the press. It says that the handling of demobilisation from Flanders and France has been a credit to the staff and troops under command. It also mentions the disposal of 39 million pounds worth of ammunition, the 185,000 German prisoners despatched to Germany and the 55,000 British prisoners repatriated to Britain. The letter believes the allegations are largely based on ignorance and that the Army Council is fully satisfied with the way the processes are occurring.

From a collection of papers of Miss G J Baxter, Women's Army Auxiliary Corps and Queen Mary's Army Auxiliary Corps, 1917-1920.
