1914-15 Star, awarded to Sergeant Ernest Henry Petts, 'B' Company, 2nd Battalion, The Buffs (East Kent Regiment)
Bronze, four-pointed star surmounted by a crown, with two crossed swords beneath a scroll bearing the inscription, '1914-15', within a wreath of oak leaves bearing the royal cypher for King George V, 'G V'. The reverse is unadorned save for the recipient's number, rank, name and unit. The medal ribbon has red, white and blue watered and shadowed stripes.
Sergeant Ernest Petts (L-8632) arrived in France with the 2nd Battalion, The Buffs on 18 January 1915. He returned to England with frostbite on 18 February 1915. He rejoined his unit on the 28 April 1915 but was killed in action, aged 24, on the 3 May 1915. The Commonwealth War Graves Commission records his death on the Ypres (Menin Gate) Memorial in Belgium.
