Pair of ankle boots, desert, chukka style, 1990 (c)
This boot was manufactured in suede and canvas with a brown rubber direct moulded sole. These boots have the same sole design as the boot, direct moulded sole (DMS).
These were hastily put into production on the deployment of British Forces to the deserts of Kuwait in 1990. At that point only the issued combat high boot in black leather was available. Two types of boot were produced. A high leg version followed the same form and dimensions of the issued combat high leg boot. This version as an ankle boot, followed a tradition of private purchase of suede 'chukka' boots which had been popular during the Second World War in the North African theatre, and also following the war.
These boots were produced for the Gulf War (1990-1991), but have never been issued or worn. They were discontinued at the end of the conflict.
