Pair of combat boots, universal pattern, 1988 (c)

This type of boot was introduced in the mid-1980s. It replaced the DMS (Direct Moulded Sole) ankle boot which was not water-resistant and required anklets or puttees. Although the new boot was waterproofed, many soldiers found it made their feet very sweaty. It could also cause acute tendinitis.
