Pattern 1842 percussion musket, 1845

This gun's percussion cap kept the explosive primer dry. Before this development flintlock muskets like the 'Brown Bess' were likely to misfire in bad weather. Although made obsolete by the introduction of the Minié, the Pattern 1842 was used early on in the Crimean War (1854-1856).
