Short-tailed coatee, other ranks, Queen's Own Worcestershire Yeomanry, 1866 (c)
Scarlet wool cloth with blue facings and white metal buttons.
A yeomanry cavalry regiment was first raised in Worcestershire in 1794, but had lapsed by 1828. The unit was re-raised in 1831 and by 1850 numbered over 750 men.
William IV had ordered the re-clothing of cavalry regiments from blue to red in 1830 and the regiment followed this convention. In 1837 the regiment received the title 'Queen's Own' and as a result the facing colours were changed from buff to dark blue as shown on this coatee. The regiment continued to wear a coatee until 1870, when a more practical tunic was introduced.
