Coatee, 72nd (Duke of Albany's Own Highlanders) Regiment of Foot, 1845 (c)

Scarlet wool fabric, short-tailed coatee, with very pale yellow wool fabric facings and gold gilt buttons.

In 1823 the 72nd Regiment of Foot was re-named after Frederick Augustus, Duke of York and Albany, Commander-in-Chief of the British Army and a brother of King George IV. In the same year it regained its Highland status, lost in 1809. During the 1840s and 1850s, the regiment put down industrial riots in Manchester and deployed to Ireland, Gibraltar, the West Indies and Canada on garrison duties.
