Officer's full dress coatee, worn by Colonel Frederick Clinton, 1st (or Grenadier) Regiment of Foot Guards, 1844 (c)
Scarlet wool cloth with blue facings and metal thread lace.
Frederick Clinton was first commissioned to the 1st (or Grenadier) Regiment of Foot Guards. This coatee is of the pattern introduced in 1844 and remained the regulation pattern until 1855. Clinton would have only worn this for a short period of time, as he was placed on half pay in 1846. He died in 1870.
