Officers' helmet, 15th (or the King's) Regiment of (Light) Dragoons, 1767 (c)

This helmet is metal but others are known to have been made of leather. They provided some protection from sabre blows. This example was worn by Captain George Ainslie who fought at Emsdorf in 1760 where the 15th broke five enemy battalions. King George III ordered 'Emsdorf' added to their helmets in recognition of their cavalry charge.
