Soldiers of the 127th Queen Mary's Own Baluch Light Infantry, 1910 (c)

Watercolour by Major Alfred Crowdy Lovett (1862-1919), 1908 (c).

A subadar-major of the 127th Queen Mary's Own Baluch Light Infantry inspecting his troops. The regiment was raised by Sir Charles Napier in 1844 for local service within Sind and brought into the regular line for its services in Central India during the Indian Mutiny (1857-1859). It became the 27th Regiment of Bombay Native Infantry in the post-Mutiny realignment and the 127th Queen Mary's Own Baluch Light Infantry in 1910.

This is the original artwork for an illustration in Major G F MacMunn's 'Armies of India', published in 1911.
