Wedding group with Staff Sergeant Farrier William Lewis Old, 21st (Empress of India's) Lancers, 1906

Photograph, 1906.

Old is seated in his uniform with wedding guests in civilian dress. A wedding cake is positioned on the floor at Old's feet. Old married Alice Maud Ruffell in Dublin 24 March 1906 and they had four children together.

Old enlisted in the 21st Hussars on 16 September 1892. Old served in the 2nd Sudan War (1896-1899) and Somaliland (1901-1904). He received the Queen's Sudan Medal 1896-97, the Khedive's Sudan Medal 1896-1908 with clasp for Khartoum and the Africa General Service Medal 1902-56 with the clasp for Somaliland 1902-04. Old was discharged on 13 September 1913, at the age of 42.
