As well as holding other senior positions, Sanders was promoted to full general on 6 May 2019 and was appointed as Commander Joint Forces Command. He was appointed Knight Commander of the Order of the Bath (KCB) in the 2020 New Year Honours.

From a collection of 200 A3 portrait photographs from the 'Soldiery' exhibition and book by Rory Lewis, winner of the Portrait of Britain award 2017, 2018 and 2019. As a project, 'Soldiery' featured leaders and soldiers from a range of iconic regiments, capturing the evolving face of the 21st century British Army.
