Medal group awarded to Colonel Thomas William Chattey, Middlesex Regiment (Duke of Cambridge's Own)

A replacement medal group (from left to right) comprising the Order of the British Empire, 1939-45 Star, Pacific Star 1941-45, Defence Medal 1939-45, British War Medal 1939-45 and General Service Medal (Army and RAF) 1918-62 with clasps for Cyprus and Malaya and an oakleaf for Mentioned in Despatches.

Born in 1913 in Alverstoke, Hampshire to Walter Humphrey and Gertrude Ellen Chattey, Thomas William Chattey was commissioned as a 2nd lieutenant in 1933. Chattey served in the Far East during World War Two. He was captured in Singapore in 1942 and remained a prisoner of war in Thailand until 1945. He subsequently served in Cyprus and Malaya.

He was awarded an OBE in the 1960 New Years Honours List. Retiring in 1960, Chattey became Chairman and later President of the Middlesex Regiment Association.
