India General Service Medal 1854-95, with clasp, 'Persia', awarded to Subadar Major Robinjee Israel, 8th Regiment of Bombay Native Infantry
Silver medal with an effigy of Queen Victoria and inscription, 'Victoria Regina', on the obverse; on the reverse, the figure of Winged Victory crowning a kneeling figure with a laurel wreath; red and dark blue ribbon with clasp, 'Persia'.
This medal, instituted in 1854, covered a very long span of time and many campaigns. Over 20 clasps were issued in all, most of which were for services on the North West and North East frontiers of India. The remaining clasps were issued for services during expeditions to nearby countries, including Persia, Malaya and Burma. Subadar Major Robinjee Israel was from the Bene Israel people who settled in Bombay during the 18th century.
