Facsimile of anti-British propaganda leaflet, 1940
This Japanese propaganda leaflet is aimed at the garrison of the British settlement at Shanghai. Published in the aftermath of the fall of France and the Low Countries it outlines Britain's precarious position during the summer of 1940. The leaflet suggests they 'withdraw from Shanghai immediately'. The foreign concessions in that city remained intact until December 1941 when Japan declared war on Britain, the Netherlands and the United States.
From a collection of papers of Captain Derek George Levis, Royal Army Medical Corps, Malaya, June 1941-February 1942.
