45th Rattray's Sikhs, 'the Drums' Jat Sikhs, 1908 (c)

Watercolour by Major Alfred Crowdy Lovett (1862-1919), 1908 (c).

Rattray's Sikhs were initially raised as a Bengal Military Police unit by Captain Thomas Rattray in 1856, going through several name changes until its amalgamation with several other Sikh units to form the 11th Sikh Regiment in 1922.

This is the original artwork for an illustration in Major G F MacMunn's 'Armies of India', published in 1911.
