'Punjabi Musalman subadar and sepoys of the 33rd Punjabis', 1908 (c)

Watercolour by Major Alfred Crowdy Lovett (1862-1919), 1908 (c).

Half of the men in the 33rd were Punjabi Musalmans (Muslims), the remainder of the regiment being recruited from Pathans and Sikhs (two companies each). In July 1908 the regiment was stationed at Jubbulpore.

This is the original artwork for an illustration in Major G F MacMunn's 'Armies of India', published in 1911.
