Honorary Lieutenant Malik Umar Hayat Khan, CIE, Tiwana of Shahpur, 18th King George's Own Lancers, 1910 (c)

Major General Sir Umar Hayat Khan Tiwana (1874-1944) served with the 18th King George's Own Lancers in the Somaliland campaign (1901-1904) and Tibet (1903-1904). He was Mentioned in Despatches six times during World War One (1914-1918) and also served in the 3rd Afghan War (1919). Khan served as aide-de-camp to three kings, George V, Edward VIII and George VI. He served as Assistant Herald to Brigadier General William Peyton (1866-1931), the Delhi Herald Extraordinary, at the Delhi Durbar in 1911.

This is the original artwork for an illustration in Major G F MacMunn's 'Armies of India', published in 1911.
