'14th Sikhs waiting for attack', Delhi Camp of Exercise, 1886

The Camp of Exercise held in the neighbourhood of Delhi and Umballa during 1885-1886 was the largest gathering of troops in peacetime India up to that date. Four divisions, comprising fourteen cavalry and 36 infantry regiments, British and Indian, took part and 37,000 troops and 25,000 followers were involved. The exercise lasted a month and culminated in a review of the troops.
