Officer's presentation sword given to Captain John Hilton, 2nd Loyal London Volunteer Infantry, 1804
Presentation sword with ornate stirrup guard and blade engraved with the figure of Britannia, with an ivory grip, silver gilt cord with gold bullion tassel.
This sword was presented to Captain John Hilton, of the 2nd Loyal London Volunteer Infantry, by the 5th Company of the regiment as a mark of their esteem for his conduct and ability. He was made captain on the 17th September 1804.
Volunteer officers were often considered to be wealthy, a fact reflected in the high quality of this weapon.
