Officer's presentation sword, Lieutenant Colonel McCarthy, 1811

This sword is adapted from the Light Cavalry Officer's Pattern 1796. The blade is curved and decorated with engravings including floral designs and a trophy of arms. The gilt stirrup guard is formed by an angel and the cross guard by a scroll and a feather; the grip is made of chequered ivory with a lion's head pommel.

The sword was presented to Lieutenant Colonel McCarthy by Lieutenant General Martin Hunter, on the occasion of his leaving the 104th Regiment of Foot to join the New Brunswick Regiment Fencible Infantry, a regiment raised in 1803 by Martin Hunter himself.
