The Japanese surrender in Burma, 1945

Lieutenant-General Takazo Numata, Chief of Staff of the Japanese Southern Army, meeting Major-General George W Syme, GOC South Burma, prior to surrendering his forces. The Japanese surrender was announced by Emperor Hirohito in a recorded radio address to the nation on 15 August 1945. This was after the atomic bomb attacks on Hiroshima and Nagasaki on 6 and 9 August.
