163 letters and postcards (accompanied by franked envelopes) written by Capt Mauric Asprey, 1st Bn The Buffs (East Kent Regiment), commanding a Trench Mortar Battery, to his family, September 1914 - June 1916, covering his service during the First World War on the Western Front in France; including details on the conditions in the trenches, the Christmas Truce, and information on provisions sent to him by his family. Also included is a studio portrait of Capt Asprey with his official memorial certificate. Capt Asprey was killed on the 12th August 1916 at Waterlot Farm near Guillemont, France, during the Battle of the Somme and was buried at Bray-sur-Somme. Archives 2005-02-6
