Army Gold Medal for Salamanca, 1812; awarded to Col Thomas Lloyd, 94th Regiment of Foot; the 94th Regiment of Foot fought at the Battle of Salamanca which was a turning point in the Peninsular War. From then on Wellington generally had the initiative in Spain; this award of the smaller type awarded to Field Officers, those above the rank of Captain and below the rank of Major General, has clasps for Vittoria and Nivelle, where Lloyd was killed. The medal is mounted on a plinth on which rests a gold sarcophagus. Medals 1959-09-157
