The Cumberland Tankard, 1746; silver tankard made by Gabriel Sleath, London; hallmarked London 1746-1747; commemorates the Duke of Cumberland's victory at Culloden, 16 April 1746; an engraved decoration around the body of the tankard is derived from an engraving published in London within a few weeks of the battle; the lid comprises a silver mortuary medallion struck by John van Nost, 1765, engraved, 'SWEET.WILL.S BLOOM.IS.CLOSD'; the tankard is able to hold 7 pints of liquid.
