Jambiya knife and scabbard, 1914-1918; green horn hilt with high, acutely curved pommel with pointed 'barbs'; double edged blade with angled narrow point; wooden scabbard covered with tooled black leather; believed to come from Iraq, and thought to have been worn by the Marsh Arabs of the Tigris and Euphrates, since it has their typical hilt and blade point; belonged to Gen C M P Durnford; probably acquired during Mesopotamian Campaign, World War One (1914-1918). Tibetan sword and scabbard, 1904; given to Cdr J L Younghusband, DSC RN, as a wedding present by his uncle, Sir Francis Younghusband; straight, parallel sided blade, with abrupt point; silvered copper ferrule; grip bound with plaited metal wire, with red fabric binding at each end; pommel of gilt brass and embellished with dragon and cloud patterns; wooden scabbard, covered with brass and decorated with floral and dog motifs; associated with the Tibetan Expedition.
