West African ammunition belt, 1895 (c); formed from ten black leather pouches sewn together; a flap of leather is stitched along the back and extending over the top and front of the pouches, and was originally secured by thongs; containing eight wooden roughly carved barrel shaped powder holders, each with a detachable top; on the left is a thong which attached a priming powder horn and bullet box to the belt; the horn is wood covered leather with a wooden stopper and the box is round bottomed; probably acquired during the 3rd Ashanti War 1895 (c).
