Paratroops in action with 3-inch mortars firing on enemy positions across the Rhine, 20 September 1944

A 3-inch mortar team of the 1st (Airlanding) Battalion, The Border Regiment, bombarding enemy positions. The crew (from left to right) are Privates Norman 'Jock' Knight (obscured) and Ron 'Ginger Tierney (facing camera), and Corporal Jim McDowell. All three were safely evacuated from Arnhem though Knight was wounded.
