Cap badge, 7th Hariana Lancers, 1904-1922

Gilt badge in the form of the regimental number, in Roman numerals, 'VII', over crossed lances with a scroll below bearing the unit title, 'Hariana Lancers'.

Hariana is a town in the Indian state of Punjab.

The origin of the 7th Hariana Lancers begins in Meerut in 1846 with the raising of 16th Regiment of Bengal Irregular Cavalry; swiftly renumbered the 17th Regiment in 1847. In 1861 the unit was renamed the 7th Regiment of Bengal Cavalry. A number of name changes occurred in the early 1900s as the Indian Army underwent reform. In 1904 the unit became the 7th Hariana Lancers and in 1922 it was amalgamated with the 6th King Edward's Own Cavalry resulting in the formation of the 18th King Edward's Own Cavalry.

The 7th Hariana Lancers served with the 6th and 7th Indian Cavalry Brigades in Mesopotamia during World War One (1914-1918).
