Shoulder title, 3rd Battalion, 1st Punjab Regiment, 1930s-1940s
Brass shoulder title formed of a curved scroll bearing the unit tile, 'Punjab Regiment', with, on a solid in-fill between scroll points, the title, '3rd Bn'.
This rather unusual shoulder title was worn in the 1930s and probably was not officially sanctioned as the remainder of the battalions in the 1st Punjab Regiment all wore the numeral '1' above a curved Punjab shoulder title.
The predecessor regiment of the 3rd Battalion was the 76th Punjabis which was re-badged in 1922. The battalion saw service on the North West Frontier during the 1930s and fought in North Africa and Italy in World War Two (1939-1945). During Partition in 1947 it was part of the Punjab Boundary Force and after independence joined the Pakistan Army.
