Cap badge, officer, 3rd Madras Regiment, 1922-1928

Hallmarked silver (1924) badge, in the form of six-pointed star with a King's Crown making the top point, with the regimental number, '3', within a circlet bearing the regimental title, 'Madras Regiment'.

The 3rd Madras Regiment was formed in 1922 as part of the reform of the Indian Army. It consisted of four regular battalions and a training battalion. By 1928 all of the battalions had been disbanded. The Regiment was raised again during World War Two (1939-1945) in 1941. The 4th Battalion saw action at Imphal in 1943 and Tamu in 1944. In 1945 the regiment was renamed the Madras Regiment.
