Shoulder title, 3rd Madras Regiment, 1922-1928, and 1941-1945

Blackened brass badge, in the form the regimental number, '3', above the curved title, 'Madras'.

The 3rd Madras Regiment was formed in 1922 as part of the reform of the Indian Army. It consisted of four regular battalions and a training battalion. By 1928 all of the battalions had been disbanded. The Regiment was raised again during World War Two (1939-1945) in 1941. The 4th Battalion saw action at Imphal in 1943 and Tamu in 1944. In 1945 the regiment was renamed the Madras Regiment.
