Button, 8th Bombay Native Infantry, 1855-1877

Large brass button made by Hobson and Sons, Lexington Street, London, with regimental number, '8' within French circle and dot, within a wreath.

The 8th Bombay Native Infantry was formed in 1824 from the 2nd Battalion, 4th Regiment of Bombay Native Infantry. The term 'Native' was dropped from its title in 1885. In the reform of the Indian Army in 1903 the regiment became the 108th Infantry Regiment. In 1922 the regiment formed the 3rd Battalion of the 4th Bombay Grenadiers, finally disbanding in 1930.
